Hello, basically I had a hard disk failure on my laptop and so i bought a new one (same make, model and brand) put it all in correctly and then got a copy of windows xp home edition exactly the same as was installed on my laptop before the crash. I load up the computer go into the bios and set the boot from cd-rom/dvd drive as my preference, it restarts with the windows disc in and then in the load screen i get the following message:

Intel UNDI, PXE-2.0 (build 082)
Copyright (C) 1997 -2000 Intel Corporation

For Realtek RTL8139( x)/8130/810x PCI Fast Ethernet Controller v2.13
(020326)

PXE-e61: Media test failure, check cable

PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM

Operating System not found

From here i cant do anything it gives me no options if i press any of the F buttons the screen reloads with the same message, if anyone has any ideas whats up with this i would really appreciate it, im not very computer savvy so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Lonnie

But that pc is still booting from the network from your post !! are you sure you saved the changes when you left the BIOS ?

Firstly thanks for the reply, i went into the bios and the CD rom/DVD drive was top of the list but the network was second so i moved the network all the way to the bottom saved and restarted and the disc loads up fine, I installed windows the only problem i have now is that when i installed it i went through the setup put my name as the main user and finished, now its asking me for a password which i never chose and i have tried all sorts of variations of my name and just leaving it blank but i cant seem to login, i have tried running in safe mode and the "administrator" user is also password protected, this is very perplexing does anyone have any ideas as to why i would suddenley need a password to enter windows when i dont remember setting one up ????
