Problem w/ Internal card reader

It has 4 slots so it takes up 4 drive letters. When I plug in an SD card and then safely remove it, it removes the entire card reader. So next time I put in a memory card, nothing happens because the card reader itself has been removed. Any ideas on how to fix it?

I'm pretty sure all you have to do is go to my computer, right click on the drive with the SD card is in and click eject.

i have never had a problem with my usb or anything......
