I built myself a new amd system but when i turn it on it starts to load for afew seconds and then totally shuts down and just gives me some kind of warning alarm sound, any idea whats wrong? is the mobo dead? or did i just get a cable wrong

Anything on the screen or is it just black? What alarm sound? (it's an error code)

Btw what motherboard is it?

Yeah, a little more info about the system would allow us to help you further. Most important thing we need is PSU wattage, mobo brand, and CPU type and HS.

hi guys,
the Heatsink is a stock model which came with the Amd athlon 2000+ i'm using,

my total specs were,
AMD 2000+ with stock HS
512ddr ram 3200 400
Msi kt4v-L (ms-6712)
Geforce 6600
PSU = 400W 230V

and the sound?...uhh hard to discribe a sound online lol
but it was sorta like "DO duuuh DO duhhh DO duhhh"
lol sorry thats the best i can discribe it.
Thanks for any help.

Edit: forgot to add that yes theres stuff shown on the moniter before it screws up, just the basic bios screen, the one where it does a memory test.
Memory is fine thou i'm using it in a differant pc, the ram is 400 but the mobo supports 333/266, could that be the problem??

Sounds like it's an overheating problem. Does the sound, sound like a siren or a wailing? If that's the case it might mean it's just getting hotter than a temp. set in the BIOS. If you can access the BIOS before it restarts then check the temperature limits and the actual temp.

if you mean a world war 2 siren sound then no its not like that,
i doubt its overheating as i am using the same stock hs and cpu in this system and its running fine.

Using DDR400 ram in a 333/266 slot is not bad, it will just be clocked down to DDR333.

It's not really overheating but to the mobo it is. If there is a temperature control in the BIOS (which there is on all mobo's) it will usually be set to a certain temp to just warn you that you are getting too hot. The siren I'm talking about is more of a 2 tone beeping, high, low, high, low. If you're hearing that then I'm 70% sure it's the BIOS warning you it's too hot and shutting the machine down.

yea thats the sound i'm getting High low High low, i'll check the bios for a temp setting and get back to you, thanks!!

How many seconds exactly ... cuz with the fan off you can usually squeeze out 15 seconds before any preventative issues kick in...
