Problem with CMOS

I just got my new computer up and running and the only problem is that I need to physically reset the CMOS on my board every time I turn the computer on.I do this by taking the little pin out and putting it back in.The pin looks like the pin that you use in ATA harddrives to determine if its the master or slave. If I don't reset the CMOS the computer turns on but the screen remains blank. I've also tried to go into the setup and save configurations but after i do that the screen goes blank. I learn this stuff as I go along so it would be great if one of you could help me :D
 
Are you sure your not suppose to do it the other way around, put the jumper on to reset then take it off. Try booting without the jumper on it.
 
I tried that and it did the same thing. I took it off when the computer was off then I booted and shutdown and it did the same thing.
 
Look through the manual about resetting the bios with the jumper to make sure you have it correct. It could be a freak thing and the cmos battery is dead. Havent fooled with XFX boards much, there a Foxconn knock off, made by Foxconn.
 
I can't see how a new board right from the store can have a dead battery in it. I looked through the instruction booklet and the only thing that i could find was the reset CMOS instruction. From the instructions it appears that it saves everything when its in its original position. Is it possible that a brand new board has a dead backup battery?
 
Another thing is that when I press DEL to go into the setup, right after I save and exit the screen goes blank.
 
This is from the manual for that motherboard, just to clear up what it calls for to do with clearing the cmos.

Use the following procedure to clear CMOS:
1. Turn off the AC power supply and connect pins 1 and 2 together using the
jumper cap.
2. Return the jumper setting to normal (pins 2 and 3 together with the jumper
cap).
3. Turn the AC power supply back on.

So yes it has a jumper on it for normal mode.


Even if the battery were dead, it should still boot, though all the settings you made to the bios would be reset to defaults.

So, let me get this straight. You built your system, installed your OS, and now every time you boot you need to reset your bios before it will boot. Otherwise it just goes to a blank screen. Is that correct?


Do you have your system set up for SLI? Are you sure your 8600 cards are sli certified? Did you install the newest drivers for your motherboard? Including the newest SLI drivers?

Try removing one of your video cards from the second pci-e slot and see if you can boot correctly.

Are you using XP or Vista?

Yes there is a blank screen
Yes its certified for sli
Yes the cards are certified for sli
I installed the drivers from the disk that came with the mobo
Im not sure about Sli drivers
Im using Vista

When I bridged the cards there was a setup that helped me get Sli working.
