problem with computer not turning on

everytime i try to turn my computer on all the lights light up for a fraction of a second and then they go off and my computer doesnt turn on. does anyone know the problem. its been running fine since i built it this is the first problem ive had with it.
 
disconnect everything, all power and i/o cables to everything except for the power connection to the motherboard. remove any feature cards including video. now turn on...does it do the same ? if no , it is something you unplugged, if yes. go to the computer store and buy a power supply tester or buy one from newegg.com. You can also try powering on with no ram, make sure the processor fan turns. Try removing the cmos battery and clearing the cmos.

because the power supply if it can't hold on u need to take a new one if u have 450w take 700w or something can turn on ur computer

but if its not there is some thing not pluged in...

Becuse if the computer can't hold on u will need to get a new power supply but if u have a good one there is some thing unplug...
 
ok i finally had time to sit down and mess with my computer. the first thing i disconnected was my video card. an guess what??? she boots up fine. plug the video card back in......back to the problem. before i go and buy another video card. does this sound like something that could make my computer only turn on for a sec??

Can you plug your video card into another slot?
 
i plugged my video card into my friends computer and his computer would not turn on either. so i put his in mine and mine worked. so i bought a new video card and now shes up and running good as new. thanks for all the help fellas
