Problem with computer

I have two problems that i cant resolve : When i shutdown the computer from the start menu the options for shutdown and restart dont show up. I have to shut down the computer using ctrl alt + delete. The second problem is when I shut down the computer it stays at windows is shutting down and it never shuts down. I have to shut it down from the power button.

Sounds like a windows installation problem, I have never run into this though, I would wait for other opinions.

Do you have the windows disk on hand?
if so i would recomend reinstalling it.
From my expirience it definatley sounds like a windows problem but just like lowcar100 i have never run into this

Well it could be a group policy issue. An Administrator can take away the right to shutdown or reboot the computer. Are you the sole Admin on the computer?

to verify my quenstion the option for shutdown restart and standby do not show up when using the computer for a while. Whe i start the computer normally the option are there, then after a while it dosent respond.
