Problem with connection.

Alright, I downloaded a Half life 2 demo and installed steam, but them when I clock on the steam icon, it says "Cannot contact the steam Network, please try again later." I'm connected to the internet throught my neighbors wifi, and use a wireless range extender. I made shure that windows firewall allows steam through it, so it must be something with my laptop and its connection.
can anyone tell me how to fix it, thanks.

You can surf the net? You just can't play?
Try rebooting, to make the changes take effect. If that doesn't make it, come again.

I can go online, and I fear that if my neighbor knows if I use his wifi, he will lock me out of his network connection.
I think its an internal error.

you can break into his house to see if upnp is enabled or port forward your specific range. hopefully it's just a temporary issue. the server may be down due to upgrades

or you can get your own net. 14 bucks a month for me. no restrictions - i use it 24/7. comes with a free modem

Yeah, 4 me its $2000 to have the cable run to my house 300 ft back to the road, then the $14 a month. Plus, any high speed is unavailable in my area because I live in the middle of no where. I cant even see my neighbor I'm getting wifi from.

Well the problem isn't intern, it's the Wifi Router

Wait, so you can't get broadband but your neighbor can?

It could also be a port forwarding issue.
