Problem with Dell Axim X50v

So a few days ago, I sat my Axim into a cradle to charge. After a few hours, I noticed that it wasn't yet charged (when it usually is by then) and upon closer inspection I discovered that the charging light was flickering, instead of the solid red/green that it usually is. When I tried to start it up, it would pwer on for a few seconds, then say "Main battery critically low" and shut down. Of note, while it was on, the charge light would turn off. After it shut down, the light would go back on. I put it on a different cradle (the one I was using was a 3rd party one as my Dell one broke, but is still semi-usuable, so I put it on the Dell one) where it charged fine. When I tried to start it up again, it just hangs on the "Dell" logo screen. If I take out the battery (the only way to shut it off) and turn it on again, I get a message: A memory error has been deteced...etc...I was wondering if there is any way I can get my data off of it without losing it altogether, seeing as I'd rather not lose all of that data...

I spoke to Dell tech support (not that they were much help) but the woman did give me the number to PDASmart, and said something that they might be able to help me, I think.

Do any of you have ideas how I might be able to get my data off of it? It does not sync nor is it recognized by my computer, btw.

If it runs wm 2003se your info is already gone as it uses ram to store all the data unlike wm 5.0 which uses rom.

I could be wrong (lets hope) but im sure thats the way wm 2003se works.

Windows Mobile 5 couldn't store data in the ROM, because of the definition- Read Only Memory. But you are correct that it uses flash memory instead of RAM.

It does run WM 2003SE, and thus most of the data is in the RAM, but I can't see how it would be gone by now...neither the main battery nor the backup battery have gone dead, and I've been keeping it sitting in the cradle fully charged.

Does anyone else know how I might be able to get my data off of it? Or am I screwed?

Could it be that the battery is bad?

Have you tried turning it on again after you take out the battery?

I am not sure I could be much of a help but those questions pop up in my mind when I was reading your post.

It's not the battery, I'm certain of that.

Basically, what I'm asking here is not what the problem is, but rather if I can get my data off of it before doing a hard reset.
