Problem with Dell laptop

Here lately, I've been losing connection to my laptop. I have a Dell Inspiron N501. I'm connected from modem to connection on computer with ethernet cord. Problem is not cord as I have tried 3. They all fit right. I can move the end where it plugs into my computer, and I lose connection. Is the connector on the computer messed up? Thanks.
 
The jack on the laptop shouldn't be lose at all, if it is then that is probably your issue. I'm not sure if the jack itself can be replaced or if the motherboard will have to be replaced. Or you can just use wifi.
 
Thanks, I thought the jack was my problem. Have a router, but have always hard wired everything. Haven't ever used wifi.
