Problem with Hard Disk/Security Access

Hi, Im having problems with a Hard Disk, I hope you can help me to solve this strange problem.

I have a Compaq Presario 5625LA, but suddenly the power source crashed, and replacing it is very expensive, so I decided to mount the HDD on another PC as a slave or secondary HD, but everything is fine, I can access my files and all the stuff. But the problem arises when I try to access the Documents and Settings folder of that HD, it shows a message where a security issue avoids accessing the files. So I want to know if there is any way or software to jump this security lock and access my files, because I have important data that I need to backup, and I dont want to format the disk because those files are useful.

I only know that the problem was generated, because when I installed Windows XP on the Compaq 5625LA I selected the maximum security level for personal folders, and avoid accessing it between users. But know that i have that HDD as slave I get that security message. If anyone knows how to solve this please let me know.

There are several solutions:

mount the HDD as the master drive and run windows from that drive. You should be able to log in and access the files you need.

Download windows 2000 boot disks (not xp) and boot the computer from these disks. Go into the recovery console and your chosen folder and copy your files from one place to another. This will not work with xp disks because you cannot access documents and settings in the xp console only in the 2000 console. Unfortunately if you need a lot of files it can be extremely tedious because you have to individually copy each file because directory copies aren't allowed.

I haven't tried this but someone has suggested downloading a 'live knoppix' cd image and burning it to disk and booting from that. Apparently it is possible to copy directories and everything using that.

I'm almost positive that won't work. When you install a copy of Windows, it is configured to your specific specs. Your ram, your this, your that. If you move it to another PC it's not going to be the same specs/parts. It won't run right, if at all. This was discussed in another post elsewhere yesterday, I think in the general computer chat forum.
 
Is it Windows XP or Vista, if it's Vista then I can recommend something that literally takes 2 clicks, XP takes a fair bit longer.

That's what I thought, each installation of Windows is basically custom to your specs, so just putting it in a different PC and expecting it to work normally will not work.
