Hi all, new here so go easy
Right so i bought an IBM Thinkpad T30 from a second hand electrical shop in my local town. They have a 3 month warranty but that ran out sometime ago. The laptop is about 3-4 years old and therefore IBM do not cover it anymore.
Basically i was travelling to a friends house by bike with my laptop in my laptop case and with that inside my rucksack. When i got there i took out my laptop and opened it up, turned it on and the screen was just a mess of colours. All just red, blue and green and somewhat pixely. Couldn't tell at what part of the boot up process it was at or anything.
So my friend and I, who are quite profficient in computers, opened it up and had a look. There is no evidence of decaying or frayed cables either on the power connectors or on the flat data cable. We couldn't find any way of getting it to work even for a second. The only thing that sparks progress is if you take the screen in both hands, hold it at the bottom of each side, and bend it slightly. The picture sometimes appears (the windows desktop is visible), however it is heavily distorted, in the wrong colours or just allows more colours to flash across the screen. So really the effects are inconsistent and appear to be random.
Does anyone know which part might well be the cause of the problem? I find it hard for the laptop to have been crushed in my bag at all as it was all so heavily padded.
I do have some short videos available of myself dismantling the screen and the effects which i have described above in occurance.
Any help is much appreciated and thank you in advance.
Jack.
