Problem with laptop

my friend is having a problem with his ACER laptop. The power cord stopped charging it so he bought a new one and it worked for a couple months then it stopped charging again. what could be the problem?

Is the power connector on the laptop loose? Quite often it can come disconnected from the mainboard, which will not allow the laptop to be run/charged off the AC adapter.

Can he still run it from the AC adapter, and it just doesn't charge?
