hello - hope i am posting this in the right place.

i've recently got a new laptop (Dell inspiron 6400) with windows vista premium installed. Have been finding it ok and when i went to install my new BT home hub it was very simple to do and i was really impressed.

however the past few days if i leave the laptop to sleep or hibernate when i turn it back i lose my internet connection even though in the bottom right hand corner it says the wireless is currently connected to the internet. That is when i click on internet explorer it says this page is unavailable. I then have to disconnect and reconnect again (sometimes several times) before I can get back online. Very annoying!!!

can anybody help? are there any settings i need to change or is it something to do with the laptop itself?! HELP!

thanks in advance for any replies
Nic

Thats the great disadvantage of sleep and hibernation it will constantly loose connection to the wireless and vista still has some loopholes aka this one and not reconnecting when you open the lid and turn it back on. Usually the best solution is just dont put it to sleep or hibernation its not like its helps really some people think it does but i have 2 laptops one of which is about 5 years old never once put to sleep almost always on and it has no problems what so ever!

hi there, thanks for answering my query... i don't purposely put the laptop to sleep, it's just that sometimes i don't use it for over an hour so it automatically sleeps. Can i stop this from happening or isn't that recommended?

Right click on desktop > Properties > Screen saver > Power.
You can choose options for battery powe etc.

(i don't have Viste intalled so i'm talking how it is in XP but i think it should be similar...)
You can try and use Repair as well.
Right click on connection and click Repair.
