Problem with my laptop

its a presario cq-60

As i was using it i was getting messages to replace my battery but i didnt take no notice of it then as i was watching something in my bed the cable came out of the laptop and it switched off.

So i bought a replacement battery but its 10.8v and 5200mAh the previous one was 10.8Vdc and 4200mAh. it also says on the battery replace with hp spare and a code so i found the battery which has that number.

The problem: ive tried the new replacement battery and the laptop doesn't turn on and lights don't appear to indicate whether its charging or not.

The laptop doesn't turn on and no lights are on apart from the one that indicates the cable is plugged in.

Any other suggestions on what i should try?

If it don't turn on with the power adapter attached then you have done damage to the machine. If you can access it try removing the cmos battery far a few minutes to reset the cmos.

I looked before i bought this batter and in the description it had the code that was on my battery says replace with...and a code so i bought that one.

I only really know how to take apart pcs not laptops can you explain the battery thing please

Laptops are much harder to work on as you can probably tell. Disassembly of the laptop is required to get to certain parts and can be tedious work. I won't even attempt it. You may want to take your laptop in to have it looked at and see what they say. Internal electronics may be fried. You should only have to pay a small diagnostic fee as long as you take it to a mom and pop computer repair place and not something like best buy/geek squad.

all sorted now, took the cover off the back that has the hard drive in and there was a battery looking thing which i unplugged and put back in like mentioned above then i got the lights appear again now its turned on fine.

Thanks alot dude

Glad to read that the Forum was able to assist in the resolution of your HP notebook issue. I was very concerned as I read your posting because some notices have gone out about certain batteries in HP notebooks. If later it seems that the electronics are "fried" or the problem points to the battery itself, you can contact me at [email protected].
