Problem with my new ATI x1600

I just bought myself a new graphics card, and upon installing it the monitor seemed to think there was no connection between it and the Case. After talking it over with a few people I assumed the card was dead. I returned it and ordered a new card from a different store. Now, my PC is a

Dell Dimension 4550
1024 MB RAM
2.0 GHz AGP Motherboard
410w Power supply
Windows XP

And when I put the new card in the exact same problem happens. I have no idea why... Could someone giveme an ideas on howto solve it?

Thanks.

Can you tell if the computer's working at all when the card's installed? Does it start to load windows or anything? My first thought is you might have it set to default to onboard rather than PCIe. Check the bios for that...

Well first of all it's AGP, not PCI-E, but I think the computer is running... I can't tell if it loads windows however, as I said, the monitor thinks the PC is either not connected or turned off. And if I were to change the defaults, where exactly would I go about doing that? Thanks.

Do you have onbaord video also? Does it work if you plug the monitor into that?

I don't think I have onboard video... And plug the monitor into what? Another port? There is no other...

Ah, sorry. So many PCIe boards around, I just assume that now. However, it made no difference. I mean meant disable the onboard video in general. However, I checked and you apparently don't have onboard video on that machine...

You never said if the machine worked with the original video card. If it does, we know it's either a bad card, or some sort of incompatability. I don't know how good your power supply is, but I don't think that'd cause it to not work at all(if it does work with the other card.)

Yep, it worked with the origional ATI 9200 graphics card. I have a 410watt power supply too. And it isn't a dead card, because I had an ATI x1600 before that I thought was dead but obviously wasn't since it displayed the exact same symptoms as this one... I returned that card and bought another from a different company to replace it. Same problem though.

Sorry, just bumping this. I want to be ableto run my machine. Could anyne givemea list of what could be incompatible? It checksout with everything it says is neededon the box.

Sapphire?

Is it a Sapphire? I've found that you have to remove all drivers first before installing it or that will happen. Also if it is a Sapphire, load the drivers from the ATi website and not with the disk or you're going to run into some problems.
