Is everything listed under your BIOS as correct? Is the HDD set to the right mode? And is the HDD you're adding to the system pre-installed with an OS?

yes i just did a fresh install of XP PRO before i got the mobo, im not sure about the stuff in the bios, ive looked around in there but i dont know to much about that stuff.

I would make sure everything is listed under BIOS hardware-wise. Then I would make sure your HDD controller is set to the right option and try again.

So you are using an installation of XP prior to you getting this motherboard? Once you change motherboards you need to do a repair install of XP or install a fresh copy of XP. You can't just take an old installation using a different motherboard and then change motherboards and expect it to work properly. The hardware is all different now. Either do a fresh install again or do a repair install.

the thing is when i have the xp disk in and when my pc loads up i press f11 to go to the boot menu so i can click on my cd-rom but my keyboard is froze and i cant choose an option.

ok well i figured out why my keyboard wasnt working, i needed to use one of those little purple adapter things to plug it into the normal keyboard port instead of the usb port, so im indtalling a fresh copy of windows so when its done ill let you know if it worked.

Go back into your bios and make sure that the legacy usb option is enabled. That will allow your keyboard to work during bootup.

ok i got it working now, but my pc isnt connecting to the internet, i have it connedcted thorugh ethernet port,it was working fine earlier so im thinkin maybe i have to enable the ethernet port through my bios, do i have to change something in my bios to enable that? what would it be under?

I would do a bios factory reset, then do a flash with the current bios on it. Then reinstall the OS. If that dont work, It could be something with the hard drive or boot settings. If not, send it in for a rma?

Dannaswolcott, he's already reinstalled the OS and just can't get on the internet. You definitely just need to download the drivers for your ethernet controller on a different machine, put it on a CD or thumb drive, and install it on the system that you can't get online with.

Sorry.. I miss read... I am very sleepy lol

That's one thing overlooked about newer Operating Systems.

Vista and Windows 7 I've never had to install a driver. Not once.

I have updated them, but the newer OS's always seem to find
at least something that makes it work.

i have never had a an ethernet port with drivers from the OS... ever.

the OP said he just installed a NEW mobo so he should have the driver disk which is the easiest way to install the ethernet driver.

My comment was a side note, sorry.

The new OS's find compatible drivers for you. I wasn't saying they're the best
ones, or a substitute for the one's that came with the hardware.

Just saying they get you rolling with no hassle, unlike XP.
