Problem with OS

I am trying to install windows onto an old Dell I have and whenever I get to the screen where you press ENTER to set up XP, r to repair, or F3 to quit it completely freezes up. I have to turn off the computer at this point. What is this problem?

My name is Richard; I am part of Dell's Online Community Outreach group here in Round Rock, Texas. If you have the Drivers and Utilities cd, try to boot to it and run the diagnostics. This will not only test your computers hardware it will also verify that the computer can successfully read and boot to a cd.

If you do not have the diagnostics it can be downloaded from our website, use this link, http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&clearsystem=true&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs.

If you require further assistance reply back with the Dell system type and the type of Windows install (was the XP cd a Dell Issued copy from this computer).

lol...make sure u have Dell genuine CD's or he might not be able to help u because it's non-Dell purchased ;) joking!!!

Hello Everyone,

Yes, you are correct about not being able to support Windows if it is a different version other than what was purchased with system. However, we can steer you in the right direction to help you get started.

We will always support the hardware as we are a hardware manufacture and in this case the problem is not Windows regardless the OS installed. It is most likely a SATA driver issue. So, we should be assisting to make sure you have the proper drivers.
