problem with overclocked cards?

SO i have come accross a problem and I was wondering if anyone else had experienced the same thing or if its a common occurance. I run 2 6870 factory overclocked cards from gigabyte and recently i have been having trouble whenever i try to play certain games. Crysis 2, medal of honor warfighter and even some older games like brothers in arms hells highway i have experienced this issue. I would be playing along and suddenly without reason my computer would crash. I managed to find out it was the graphics driver crashing. I tried updating my drivers reinstalling the drivers totaly but that didnt solve my problem. I constantly monitor my temps so I know that wasnt the issue also. It just so happens that when I underclocked my cards back to factory stock settings I stopped having and issues. Now these cards do not have a massive overclock anyway but it seems it was enough to cause me drama. So is this a common problem with factory overclocked cards or is there something wrong with my system?

Are you saying that you removed your overclock, or that you removed Gigabyte's overclock?

1st one, bump voltage if possible and should sort the issue.
2nd one, try bumping the voltage and see if it helps. Could be that the chip was not completely stable to start with. If that does not help, then next guess would be PSU or failing cards.

Yeah I haven't over clocked it I removed the factory overclock. I haven't had a lot of experience with voltage, how much would I need to increase it and how much is safe to increase it.

It seems to have only started doing this since I changed motherboard and cpu so maybe this motherboard is the problem.

Raise it the lowest amount possible, .01 or .001 until it becomes stable, overvolting will lead to excess and power which will disapate as heat.

it seems my cards will not allow me to change their voltage. in afterburner even when i select unlock it is still not changeable. infact i cant even see the voltage in the program

Hmmm, it lets me see my voltage and change it. Stock shows 950 and i was able to change it to 960 (defaulted to 962)

After enabling voltage changes, you have to close and reopen MSI Aferburner.

Then increase the core voltage by 100mV.
