Problem with Processer: Core not recognised

So here is the short version:
Reset Bios, upgraded to windows 7. Now my PC only recognizes my Processor as a Single core processor rather then a Dual core.
Long Story:
About 8 months ago I got a virus. For some odd reason, Avast and AVG would not work on my old windows XP system. So I used some other anti-virus software(cant remember name) that was not as sophisticated. It found the virus, but it infected my system 32. Ouch. So I had to get rid of it, so I deleted the virus and the file.

The next time I booted up my PC I got nothing but my computer trying to restart windows xp over and over. It would only work in safe mode. I thought my BOOT.INI was messed but, but after several failed attempts at repairing it I gave up. As a last ditch effort to get my computer running, I reset my BIOS. Still no luck.

Then around Christmas time, I got windows 7 and All of my problems were fixed. My PC is happy and healthy now running AVG and virus-free. However, for some odd reason my computer now does not recognize my Processor as the Dual core processor that it is. I looked in BIOS for anything that might help, and ive scanned forum after forum looking for answers, and ive got nothing. So please help!

Did you do an entire format of the drive when installing windws 7? if not that could be your problem.
 
You just need to reinstall the driver for the CPU.

Go into the device manager, go to processor and right click on the ''athlon 3000+... etc'' and update the driver....and use the search automatically.

That should fix you up, will most likely require a reboot then.

No,no. I DO have a dual core processor. it is listed wrong there. I dont know what it really is, My dad threw away my computer specs so I wont know unless I open up my computer.
I dont want to open it up because I know I wont be able to put it back together...

In other words: I do have a dual core. It ran fine as a dual core in XP. It was listed as A Dual core in XP. Now in windows 7 it isnt.

I ran it. Says the same thing. It lists it as the wrong processor. Besides, there isnt really any chance for it to be the right Processor. It is listed as a 64 bit processor when my system is 32.

CPU-Z is not lying, you have a single core processor. You are confused, the CPU is 64 bit and your system is running a 32 bit OS.
All CPU's these days have 64 bit capabilities and we have the option whether to install a 32 bit or 64 bit Operating System.

well guys. I opened up my computer and took a look at my processor. Heres what I found:

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd.... you guys were completely right.
The guy who sold it to my dad printed it wrong on the paper. Plus I was just being a stubborn idiot :P

So case closed, sorry about all the drama. now to find a new processor that doesnt suck!

Right on! Even the best AMD CPUs bundle crappy fans compared to what is offered in the aftermarket. The PC I built for my wife (AMD Athlon II X2 Regor 245) uses the fan it came with and runs perfectly. So No, you don't need a fan, and yes you may very well need a fan. In my opinion it is worth it to pay the extra $5 to get a fan and not worry about it.
 
Oh. See that's the thing. You'll pay $60 for a nice, 4200+ X2 939 CPU but then if you had an AM2 mobo it would have been the same price for a 50% faster CPU. Which sucks.

I so wish it would cost $20 or less for your CPU but the reality is that it is the same price as something new and fast.
