Problem with Ram....

Hi there

I recently recieved a gig of ram off a friend (ddr2), but when i install it into the motherboard and turn on the computer, it makes the screen not turn on, therefore it might be stopping the computer booting up. My friend didn't know if the ram worked or not, but it has HP branding on it, so i assume it was taken out of a HP computer.....Help please?

The ram might be dead. Take it out and see if the system boots back up. If it don't, then you'll need to reset the cmos.
