Problem with Sata/ide to usb converter

Hi everyone,

I have another question. I bought THIS the other day, it arrived this morning. I plugged it into my HDD and... nothing! When I plug it into the usb the first thign I get is a little pop up at the right hand side of my taskbar saying "installing device drivers", then another one moments later saying "install complete". So I go into my computer and I see nothing. I disconnect the usb and try again... same thing.

I think I've connected everything right, the hdd is getting its power because I can hear it making noise when its first plugged in, so its getting power. The hdd is connected securely to the box, and the usb is working because its the same port I use for my printer... Im totally lost. The hdd is out of a PS3 i don't know if that makes any difference?

One more, I have another drive from a dead laptop here (photo below), is it possible to get a cable for that to work with the converter I got off ebay or do I need to but an entirely new converter?

Thanking you in never ending appreciation,

Paraic!

if im reading correctly you bought a SATA/IDE > USB Bridge? I am confused as to what was purchased, as i see the title, then i see a old laptop harddrive...

Once you have the drive attached to the adapter and have it plugged into the USB port, go to Disk Management ad see if the drive shows up there. If it does, you can than partition and format the drive.

To enter disk management,

Windows XP: Click Start > Run and type diskmgmt.msc in the Open: line and click OK. The Disk Management snap-in will open.

Windows 7: Click Start. In the search box type diskmgmt.msc, the file will appear in the box, just click the file to open the tool.

I corrected the link, sorry guys! It shows up when I run diskmgmt but just as "Disk 1 unknown Not initialized". Its from my PS3 so I dont want to format it or I'll loose everything. I really just wanted to back it up.

The photo is of an older drive I pulled out of a laptop that died on me years ago that I want to pull files off, just wondering does anyone know what type of drive it is and what do I need to access it?
