Hi. I have just purchased a new Toshiba laptop. The guy at the store loaded Windows 7. When I brought it home, there was more info. that needed to be entered, such as date, time, username and computer name, which I did. I then turned it off to go to bed. When I turned it on this morning, there was a box showing that said, 'Initialisation failed...go to events log.' I pushed 'OK'. Now there is a blank screen. I don't have a clue as to what the 'events log' is, what it does and how to access it. Please help! What do I do next? And how do I complete these processes to get the laptop up and running? Is there alot more that needs to be entered or am I almost there :). Thank you in advance for any help!

Best Regards

I would call Toshiba support, and let them fix the problem your dealer has caused.
I bought my two new laptops one acer e-machine the other a H.P. Pavilion, from Best Buy both had Windows 7 installed and both were setup to use.
I feel your dealer just let the setup go wrong. :-(

Thank you

Thank you Flanker. I called Dick Smith where I bought it (Australia) and they told me to call Toshiba. I called, but they're closed, so looks like it will have to wait until Monday.

It sounds like the guy didn't finish the windows installation. Do you have a restore cd that came with the laptop? If so just pop that in and boot from it.

Dick Smith are alright but their prices are expensive! Was there yesterday and they wanted $50 for a 15m CAT6 cable

Thank you Linkin for your response. There was no CD with it. Looks like I'm going to have to call Toshiba, but they're not available until Monday...unless someone else out there knows how I can personally fix it myself.

If it is toshiba, then it will have a restore partition. When you push the power button (actually before), hold down the C button (may be the 0 key right above the P, deppends on the model) to access the system restore partition. make sure to just choose the reture to out of the box option.

Thank you Wolfeking for your response. I tried both the 'C' and the '0' key and did what you said. Neither worked. Someone told me to hit repeatedly the F8 key, but that didn't work either. So far it looks like calling Toshiba on Monday will be the way to go. Best regards - Ally

Specifically you will need OS restore discs, make sure you quote the laptops' full model number. They should send you some free of charge

they, Toshiba that is, charge 20 USD for restore disks. (Better than HP, where disk is free, but shipping is 29 USD ((UPS Next Day)) )

Yeah, but I'm in Australia ;). I really shouldn't have to pay anything seeing I didn't even get the startup disc with the laptop, which should've been with it. Oh weel...we'll see what Toshiba does. I may just be returning it.

Most if not all newer laptops only come with the restore partition. It is up to the user to burn a restore disk right from the windows control panel.
I will almost guarantee that you will have to pay for a restore disk. Even if it was the salesman's fault that the install got screwed.

Honestly you should take it back to dick smith and get them to do it. not finishing the installation was just lazy on the employee's part.

If they don't, well return it and get your money back and never shop there again.
