Im connected remotely to my sisters laptop right now and her dvd drive is giving her trouble. She says she uninstalled the Sims2 earlier and all of a sudden it stopped responding. It does show up in her device manager, but it has an error. I did the thing that says ask windows to search for one, but no luck. she is running vista home on a Compaq laptop, dont know the model number, but the DVD drive is Slimtype DVD A DS8AZP. Any ideas what could be causing the probl;em?

im trying to contruct a relationship!

And the Op is looking for legitimate assistance with a problem he is having. If you have nothing to contribute to the solution, please don't post. There is an 'anything goes' Folder at the very bottom of the main page - have fun there.

uku,

look on the bottom of her laptop. Are there any numbers anywhere that might help with a Identification? I did a search for the drive, but came up with crappy sites, too.

Does she have any recovery CD's that came with the laptop that might have the DVD drivers?

You'll want to look up the make/model on compaq's site for the drivers, not from the drive's manufacturer.

i left her a message to let me know what the model number is this morning so I can go look on the compaq site. As far as I could find out, the drive is just a generic dvd-rw drive so there was no info really anywhere that pointed to any sort of help. Ill wait and see what Compaq says.

Ok, got the correct driver from the compaq website, but it says she already has the latest drivers. I uninstalled the drive, now i had her restart to see if maybe it will get it fixed that way.

Moto,

Have you tried physically removing/reinserting the DVD drive itself? It's possible it's not making the full connection and her uninstalling the game was coincidence. Just tossing out ideas :)

This could be yet another glitch with Vista.

She comes home next week so we'll try that. I was connected to her computer remotely.
