Problem with Vista

So after I come home from school, I find my computer in sleep mode, which is usually diabled. When I press the power button, it "resumes" windows 7, which means the computer must have restarted itself sometime when I was at school, and loaded the default operating system. When I try to load vista, I either get a black screen that doesn't do anything, or I get the vista colors background and a "please wait" that doesn't go away. I can get on vista safe mode, and windows 7, but not regular vista home premium. I got a bsod once when trying to restart, but didn't figure out what it meant.

It may be a long shot, but try burning windows 7 to a disc and then using the repair on that. It may sound like obviously it won;t work, but i used my vista disc to repair 7 so it may work the other way round. You will lose nothing but maybe a dvd :P

do you know anyone with a vista home premium disk that you could use?

i dont think itd be a pirating\copyright issue if you just used it for the repair console.

Clear out the MBR, then repair it and you will need a Vista/7 disc. Even a burned disc will work, it doesn't matter, just so you can access the repair console.

True... But, the Vista record could be damaged while the 7 record is not.

Here's an easy way to fix the boot entries if one is corrupt.

Just boot into Windows 7 (and hope you can install this. lol Beta)
and you should be able to figure it out. Pretty simple.

Perhaps I should be more explicit. If the MBR is damaged, you will NOTbe able to load either OS at all. Since he was clearly able to load Vista in Safe Mode and Windows 7 boots fine, the MBR is functioning properly.

The Vista install, and perhaps the partition itself may be damaged. This will need to be addressed by the Vista Repair Installation function from the Vista Installation DVD. If this cannot fix the issue, then there could be a faulty driver involved (as may be the case since Safe Mode works and the BSOD occured) or a virus/errant program is on the system.

On that note, have you recently installed anything new in Vista? Since you can get into Safe Mode, try uninstalling whatever it was that you installed and while you are there, grab Malwarebytes, and install/run it.

Sorry it took so long to reply to this I was out of town
And I must be the stupidest person ever!

When in the bios menu, I did F8 to select "boot from last known good configuration" I think it was, and it worked fine. :D
