Problem with WIFI network

Hello,

I have a problem with my WIFI network.
Im going to describe as good as possible what the situation is en what i have done.

I have a US Robotics router which is connected to the modem, my access point is connected directly to the U.R. router with a CAT5 cable.

One month ago i configured the access point so i can connect wireless with my laptop, no problem so far but a few days ago i bought myself an Ipad Mini under the delusion that i was only a few clicks away from acces to the internet.

I can see the network that i configured, i can acces the network but going on the internet is not possible.

When i am connected i can see the following specs on my Ipad:

IP-adres: 192.168.123.54
Subnetmasker: 255.255.255.0
Router: 192.168.123.254
DNS: 195.130.131.4,195.130.130.132

I can also see in the left upper corner that there is a stable connection.
So far the Ipad part.

Here is what i did with the Acces Point:

I configured the Static IP wich is now 192.168.123.253 (192.168.123.254 = U.R. router)
The subnetmask is 255.255.240.0 (the same as U.R. router)
Gateway IPadres is 192.168.123.254

Operation mode is AP (Acces Point)
I disabled MAC filtering
I am on channel 6
Channel mode is 20MHZ
Wireless mode is 802.11n/g

Ofcourse laptop is working fine in this configuration. :good:

Who can help me out?
Thanks in advance for any help you are able to provide.

Is this UR router a wireless or wired router? What are the model numbers of the router and access point? And if this router is only a wired router, why didn't you just replace it with a wireless router instead of getting an access point? Would have been much simpler.

The U.R. router is a wired router.

The model numbers are:
U.S. Robotics Broadband Router USR8000 (Version V1.25)
ZyXEL NWA 570N 300 Mbps Draft 802.11n

My dad bought this AP so i'm not able to answer the last question.

Can i replace the US Broadban Router with the Acess point instead of connecting the acces point to the router?

No, you can't remove the router and put the AP in its place. You need a router to hand out IP addresses, the access point won't do that. I would say buy a wireless router and sell the wired router and access point. Try resetting the access point back to default and setting it back up again.

I did reset the access point many times this week but i guess i'm not seeing it.
Buying a new wireless router is at this moment not an option.

I'm not even sure my Ipad will work with the new router because i don't know what the problem is, and why does the acces point work well with my laptop?

The encryption method is WPA2-PSK.

Edit:

I can set the access point in four different configurations:
-Access Point Mode
-Bridge Mode
-Repeater Mode
-Client Mode

What i'm also wondering is that why is the subnetmask on the Ipad 255.255.255.0 and on my UR router 255.255.240.0

Try changing it to wep or wpa or even just disable the security and see if you can connect and browse.

I did a reset with encryption method: disabled and still not working.
Did you see the edit in my previous message?

Leave it as access point. Don't know what the subnet mask is different. How do you have the router hooked up to the modem? You have an ethernet cable from the modem to the internet port on the router?

I'm no network guru but I would say your ip stuff is messed up. All private networks have a sub net of 255.255.255.0 . you are using the wan addresses that the router uses for outside network ie: wan . google private network ip addresses to see which ones you can use.
Basically your router should have 2 sets of ip addresses , 1 for the internet , 1 for your private network . is there a lan page , perhaps under primary setup? Your AP should be part of your private network but it appears to use the same ip as your router. perhaps show all pages from your router?
I know if you choose ip and sub net that are not reserved for private networks{every computer in the world behind a router/modem } your network won't work properly.
