Problem with windows 98

This problem just started a few days ago when i had problems with the newest directX that i installed (9.0). Now, whenever I start my computer, it goes so far as showing my background and my muose pointer - before it erratically restarts. The start up starts again except it goes through scandisk to check drive C for errors, then restarts on a blank background. If anybody knows what could be the problem, i would appreciate it.

you should just system restore it cuz i dont even think that ull be able to scan something if its all "erratic" like that but if not use spyware sweeper by webroot AVG antivirus by grisoft

Video card

Well it might be your video card. Oh and if you can boot her up in safe mode and just uninstall direct x 9.0
