Problem with wireless adapter

So my friend gave me his laptop to fix his fan because it wasn't working, that all went smoothly[EDIT: The fan unexpectedly stopped working] except for one thing, the wireless adapter won't turn on anymore.

The laptop is a HP G60 series running Vista. I hooked everything back up the way it was before, but for whatever reason the wireless won't turn back on. When I turn on the computer, the HP wireless assistant pops up saying the wireless is off, so I press the wireless button near the keyboard (which the light is orange) and then the HP wireless assistant says it's disabled (light it still orange).

I went into the device manager to see if maybe I fried it some how, but it says it's working fine, the only thing not working is the 'Microsoft ISATAP Adapter 8', but I doubt that has anything to do with it based on the little I found about it.

Does anybody have any idea as to why it wouldn't be working?

If the cooling fan quit working then its most likely has fried the wireless card. However, I would try reinstalling windows to see if that fixes it.

The device manager basically only reports if the driver is installed properly, doesn't necessarily mean the hardware actually works correctly. If the wireless switch is on, sometimes you can also enable/disable the wireless via keyboard keys. You'll see the wireless symbol on the key you need to use.

Don't know what else to tell you to try then. You may want to find a replacement wireless card somewhere and try it. Google the model number on the wireless card itself. You can always get a usb wireless adapter until you figure it out.

I can't hook it up to the internet to get the installation files. It's not my laptop, it's my friends, so I'm using my laptop to get on the internet.

Go into device manager, right click on the wireless device and click on uninstall. Then reboot the laptop and see if windows reinstalls the driver and try connecting.

John, that may be not the best idea, as MS is known for screwing non-MS drivers from time to time.

Download driver on your computer and move it to your friend computer, uisng USB flash drive

I don't know why it was like this, but apparently all I had to do was go into the HP Wireless Assistant, click properties, click 'Independent control' and a turn on option appeared next to the 'Off' setting. I clicked it and it turned it back on. Wtf. Why couldn't I turn it back on with the wireless button on the laptop? Why did Vista turn off the card in the first place? If Vista was a person, I'd shove a brick up it's ass.
