Problem With Wlan

installed a new router the other day and everything went on well and i could connect against the wireless but at that time I just rushed through the setup of the router just to see if it was even functional so i didnt make any encryption key whatsoever. After discovering that the router was functional i went through the setup of it again to make an encryption key, and the setup was succesfull, but when i then tried to connect against the WLAN which was now requiring a key, i couldnt on my laptop enter that key anywhere!
It just said that it couldnt connect to the WLAN, but shouldnt it display a pop-up windows where i sould enter the encryption key to access it?

how did you get to the access point?
normally when you see your router name it'll have a lock symbol meaning it'll need a password. open it and it'll ask for a password

yeah, well, it's the strangest thing!
On the computer which the router is wired to i cant see the WLAN anywhere, shouldnt it be an icon on "networkconnections" displaying ALL available networks, including WLAN?
When i search for wireless on my laptop i find the network with a lock-icon on it, but when i open that network there aint any window asking for any password, it just say that i cant connect to this network since it's locked

Try this:

on the computer you're definitely connected to the router with, open up internet explorer and type: 192.168.1.254 (or the IP address of you're router if known) this should bring up a GUI enabling configuration of all aspects of your machine. If you cannot find the problem here, try resetting the WLAN card of the machine your having trouble with or try resetting the machine your having trouble with.

Thanks!
i'll try that when i get home
i'm just so frustrated why i cannot seem to find the wireless network icon on "networkconnections" on the cpu that the router is wired to. But i'll try your hint and discover what happens

Thanks

This is what you need to do:

Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Right click your wireless one, click properties, click the wireless networks tab chose your wireless network and remove it!
Now go back on the windows wireless network browser in your taskbar, click refresh, double click your wireless network in the list and this time it should ask for the key!

The problem was: windows keeps the settings of each wireless network you've connected to (SSID/Mac Address/channel etc) and when you try to connect to the network next time, if the settings dont match it wont allow you to connect.

But at that directory i cannot find the wireless network, that's the problem!
It doesnt show anywhere, as if there werent any wireless,

windows wireless zero is probably disabled by the wifi card's program. normally there would be an icon for this in the startup list. if for some reason not then click on the start icon - all programs and locate the name of your wifi adaptor. mine is called "airlink101 wlan monitor"
