Problems installing OS - Windows XP

Well, recently my computer's hard drive crapped out on me, atleast I'm pretty sure it did. When running the windows disc I had and doing system repair, then typing in the command to show me what was on my hard drive, nothing came up and my serial was 0000-0000.

I was told that this probably meant that my hard drive was dead, even though my BIOS was recognizing it as the 160gb HDD I had in there.

So, even so, I decided to attempt to reformat my computer, just to see if that would work.

However, when I was installing it, I came across some problems.

Four files, tahoma.tff, syssetup.dll, tada.wav, and t2embed.dll couldn't install for some reason. I know that Tahoma.tff is a font file, and that tada.wav is just the start up sound, but I don't know why they wouldn't install.

When they finished copying, the computer rebooted and set up resumed, except I got another error. I saw something about not having enough virtual memory and something about a paging file(The computer rebooted before I was able to read the rest of it). The computer would then just loop between it rebooting and doing that.

So, I decided to try it on another computer which was previously BSoD'ing(I think. It was a blue screen, but not the typical BSoD.). I would keep recieving that error everytime I started the computer up, even in safe mode. So, I started set up, and recieved only the error on syssetup.dll. Upon it finishing, I got the exact same error that I was having with my other computer.

I was also recieving another error upon starting up the computer;
"Floppy Disk Seek Failure
Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility"

The windows disc I'm using came with one of the computers(they're both Dells, and the installation disc says "For Distribution only with a new Dell computer" and also has the Dell logo on it.) But it IS a windows installation disc.
The original error I was recieving with my first computer was that whenever I would start the computer up, I would get passed the BIOS, but then I would get hung up on the screen after that; a black screen with just a blinking cursor in the top-left corner.

I tried running the windows setup disc on it and doing the repair console, doing fixboot and fixmbr, both of which claimed to be successful, but in the end did nothing(Probably because windows didn't seem to be correctly installed, also leading me to believe it's my hard drive.)

The first computer is about 6-7 years old, it was made somewhere between 2001-2003, I'm not sure. The other one was made in 2004, I believe.

So, if anyone has any clue on why I keep recieving these error, or any idea on how I can fix these problems, thank you. The disc is a little scratched, but I don't really think that's the problem here.

Thanks to anyone who helps me.

The disk being scratched is most likely your issue. The only other thing you can try with the first pc is to run a check on the memory, which can be causing the files not being able to copy over. But I can almost bet your issue is with the overly scratched cd. You most likely will have to call Dell to get a replacement.
