Problems making my home-built computer work, please help

Hi all,

I'm running into some trouble with the computer I've built - specifically, when I turn it on, it usually turns off after less than a minute. Even when it's on, it never displays anything on the screen it's connected to. I wanted to know if anyone notices any potential conflicts between the parts I have and whether you have any idea on how to fix it. Thanks!

Most likely you have 2 issues, overheating and bad video card. Did you put the heatsink on the processor properly? Is the monitor good? Have you tried it on another system?
 
I tried to boot with and w/o the video card, I'm still getting nothing.

In terms of overheating, I can see that being part of the problem. What would I do about that? There are 2 fans in the case and another for the CPU, plus another for the GPU.
 
You do have thermal compound on the cpu chip between the heat sink, right. Like paper thin amount. You didn't mention what type of memory you are using either. Just a thought.
 
That's good advice, I checked it out and added a little more and that seems to have taken care of the startup issue. However, I'm still not getting graphic output with or without my GPU. Ideas?

Also, my memory is:

Well, that explains something else, I didn't have any of the standoffs installed. The CPU connector is in, though. I'll have to go back in and put in the clips.
 
Hope you didnt short the board out. Only put standoffs under the motherboard holes that have the grounding strips around them.
