Problems playing new games on pc; please help!

Ok I got Tiger Woods 07 and Battlefront II for pc. When trying to play them on my parent's computer which is a newer gateway with an amd 3500+ socket 939, asus x1600 pro w/ 512mb of memory gpu, and 512mb of ram. The games install fine but when you load one up, like Battlefront, I can pick training or any other play option, the level loads, you take two steps and it freezes and restarts the computer.

I've tried scanning for viruses and spyware which did not result in anything. I tried turning off the anti virus, firewall, anti spyware, etc and it still does it. I then tried installing the games on my computer in my sig and they play without a hitch on all settings. The only difference between my comp and my parent's comp is the ram (512mb compared to my 1gb) and the gateway pre-asembled computer stuff (ie motherboard, power supply, etc). I've read that it could be the ram (maybe get bump it up to a gig?) or possibly the power supply?

Has anyone else experienced something like this with any other games? Are there any other solutions?
 
Normally, this is a power supply issue... However, it could be other things as well. Do you have another power supply you could try in that machine?
 
The rebooting with your computer definitely sounds like a bad PSU or a heating issue. Perhaps it would not hurt to start by checking your temps.
 
Wow thanks for all of the responses! It's really starting to sound like a psu problem to me as well. I think I might upgrade the ram and also buy another, better, psu for it. Now I've built many computers in my time but I've never added a psu to a "pre-built" machine like a dell or gateway. Will be as easy as installing a normal psu AND will it fit?

When I get home tonight I'll def check out those temp sites you mentioned. The room does get pretty hot as well. Maybe adding another case fan or two?

Again thanks for all of the responses! Can anyone recommend a good brand for a psu? I know of a few brands and also what to look for in a good psu (such as the rails and amps and all of that).
