Problems starting up

Hi I am new here.

I recently have been having problems starting my computer up. I run Windows XP home and when I get to the initial windows loading screen it will sometimes freeze, not show up at all, or take forever to start. Other than this I have had no problems once the computer is started. I would really appreciate it if you could give me some advice as to what the problem might be.
 
in order defrag, remove unnecessary programs, restore windows, repair windows using your boot disk. One of those ought to fix it if it's a software issue. If it's hardware, could be a processor or mobo thing
