Problems with an HP Pavilion N3402

A long time ago I got an HP Pavilion N3402 laptop (I am aware it is a dinosaur) recently I tried starting it up to get some files off of it and upon startup it would not fully start rather it would crash after the Windows XP logo popped up (I installed XP on it because it came with ME witch I don"t like) Anybody know a solution because I have restated it MANY times and I am still running into the same issue.

Could be due to anything such as bad hard drive, rootkit infection. You can always get a usb adapter such as this to pull your files off of it.
