problems with Canon printer

I have a Canon Pixma IP2000 printer that will not print anything. It goes through the motions just nothing will show up on the paper. It acts like it is out of ink but I just put two new ones in. The only thing I could think is that I was printing several pages when the ink ran out. Ever since then I will not work. I tried cleaning, deep cleaning but did not work. Does anybody have any idea what it could be? Do you think it is worth it to try and get this one fixed or get a new one? What are good brands? I always thought Canon was a good brand but I didn't use the printer that much and it is already messed up.

When you say "that much" had it been sitting there for a month or two not being used? If that's the case, that's death for any inkjet printer. You have to use it at least once every other week, if not every week to keep it working properly. Printers are like cars, if you let them sit without being used, they won't really work right when you need them to.

The printer is over 3 years so warranty is out of question. Do you think it worth getting it fixed or just get a new one?

Well I got my printer working. I don't know what was wrong but after I reinstalled windows it started working. Could it have been a driver or software problem? I'm just glad I don't have to buy a new printer. I almost did buy a new one. Good thing I didn't.

Yeah, a lot of the time if you do a clean install of Windows and that clears up the issue, it's probably a software/driver conflict of some sort...

Well my printer was working fine for a while but now it has quit working again. It is doing the same thing as last time. It only prints stuff on the top of the paper. I have tried reinstalling the printer driver but still no luck.

Is there a quick answer to my problem? I guess I could start deleting programs one by one to see if it is a software conflict. That is going to be a pain. Is it possible to print under safe mode?

Is this printer on a network? Or just connected to 1 computer.

Try going to your printer settings under start/settings/printers and faxes. Delete your printer and install it over again. Some times that fixes little problems.

No it is not on a network. I did delete it and reinstalled it but did not work. This is driving me crazy. It worked fine right after I reinstalled Windows but quit working. This is why I think it is a software conflict. I may reinstall windows again and install one program then check the printer. If anybody else has any suggestions, I am listening. I really don't want to reinstall Windows again.

Now I don't think it is a software conflict. I hooked the printer up to another computer and did the same thing. I guess it is still possible that it is a software conflict but not likely. I may buy the piece that holds the ink tanks and see if that fixes it.

I wouldn't think that it is the print heads... Was the other computer using the same OS? There could be a Windows update that is causing this conflict... Are the drivers you are using the most up to date that are available?

Both computers were XP. How do you update the drivers for the printer? I could not find it under hardware.

Use IE and temporarily disable popups to access this page.
That's where you'll find the latest iP2000 driver. Pick the one that applies and download it to your desktop.
Ideally, you should go to Add/Remove Programs and delete the present driver, reboot, and then double-click the driver you just downloaded. Save the file for future use if you have to reinstall it.

I tried downloading the newest driver and still no luck. I don't think this is a software or Windows update problem because it tries to put something on the page. I am thinking something is clogged or messed up. I have tried cleaning, deep cleaning, and nothing helped. I did replace the color ink and that helped but I will have to go buy a black one since I am out:mad: If replacing the ink tanks does fix it, that will not make sense because when it first messed up, that was the first thing I did and did nothing. I may go out and buy a black ink tank and see what that does.
