Problems with my 8800GT [NOT BANDWIDTH FRIENDLY]

Hey everyone, I'm been having some problems with my 8800GT it's a guess but i think it's most likely the problem. Now here's the situation, often when playing games like GRID or even The Sims 3 on default settings my GPU temp raises EXPONENTIALLY (as high as 99 degrees C), before you ask I've already blown the dust out of it and that's not the problem. Also sometimes while alt-tabbing i encounter the error shown in the first picture and i never get a pop-up dialog nor do i know where to find it.

My rig is in my sig, as for other details i run dual monitors the Samsung and a no-name and my drivers are up to date.

Thanks guys!

Whoah dude... that's pretty messed up.

I run GRID on like max with the 9600GT @ 1680x1050 and my card never gets past 65.

Also, forgot to add, you could try pulling the heatsink off the card, removing the old TIM, and putting some nice new ceramique on it;)

Try installing a older driver like 182

Upgraded and downgraded a few times, always the same problem.

Also, try moving the fanspeed to around 80% and hitting apply, then back to 100%...

Just noticed that around 80% it makes a slight buzzing noise, but at 100% there isn't a such noise.

Yeah that why i made this thread.

Sorry, TIM? ceramique?

Are you talking about the thermal compound?

Might be something up with the onboard fan controls, the 8800gt isnt exactly quiet at 100%...

Arctic Silver Ceramique(i wouldnt use a silver based tim on a gpu tbh), TIM= Thermal Interface Material;)

I'm not saying it's quiet at 100% but it doesn't buzz like it does at 80%.

Ah, gotcha. But i'd also like to resolve why it crashes, sometimes it's not hot when it crashes.

RMA perhaps? Sounds more hardware than software tbh.

Hmm..it's an option but i really need my computer, now with the summer break and all. Also i'm not sure but i don't think Zotac (the maker of my 8800gt) sends a replacement while i ship them mine.

ZOTAC is also proud to announce the ZOTAC Progressive RMA Program (PRM) with all products purchased on or after January 1, 2008. To sign up for the ZOTAC Advanced RMA Program all you need to do is register your product with us within 30 days of purchase and you will have several options to choose from. For more information, please visit http://www.zotacusa.com/register/rma

ZOTAC also offers a Progressive RMA Program which allows you to have a replacement sent before defective product is received by ZOTAC.
