Problems with my Custom Build

I just built a new computer and I can't figure out what my problem is:

EVGA 780i SLi
E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA775
XFX 9800 GTX+ Black Edition
PC Power and Cooling 750w
1TB Western Digital HDD
4GB (2x2GB) Corsair 800 XMS2
Ultra eTorque ATX Mid-Tower

Everytime I boot up, the monitor stays in sleep mode and the mobo beeps once. Then the mobo 2-character readout says 7F. I looked online and I should have an image at this point. I asked my local computer store and they said it was the RAM. Originally I had Patriot Viper 4GB (2x2GB) 1066 until I realized that my mobo needs 800. When I talked to the tech guys, I had the Patriot RAM in the computer, so I thought getting the new RAM would fix my problem. Unfortunately, it still won't work. Please help.

I am not the most qualified here but if your mobo is beeping the user manual should tell you what error it is reporting. Mobo's usually have different beeps for different things going wrong, i.e. 1 beep or 2 beeps, and diff mobo beeps mean different things. It may get you more info on whats going on anyway.

Look in your user manual that came with the board it should tell you what the error code means.

The error code says "Check POST error and display them and ask for user
intervention". I don't know what that means. I also looked through the manual and I can't find anything about beeps. :/

Here is the link for the manual online:

hrmm, well heres a run down of things to try

Reset CMOS memory
Reseat the RAM
Reseat the Graphics card.
Check power cable to graphics card.
Check power connectors to mainboard.
still not working?
Make sure you only have the essential hardware connected. (cpu/ram)
Try with only 1stick of RAM at a time, also try in different slots.
if it is hardware, try to isolate which piece. if there is no beep with just cpu/ram... add the GPU, does it beep now? etc. good luck!

I actually tried most of the stuff you said already on my own and none of it worked. I might want to try and disconnect some more non-essential stuff, but other than that, I did everything you said.

I would say it's videocard but "7F" is way past the videocard initializing, it's actually right after HDD check. "7F" would be the step when for example you have SMART HDD problem and it shows it to you, you usually press F1 (thats user intervention meaning) and proceed to the next step. And you should have picture at that time. Just try to press F1 and see if it will go on - look at post codes. May be it's the battery for the CMOS?

Remove any extras (sound cards, optical drives, floppy) and try booting at a minimum. 7F shows as a video-related issue (sometimes). Try using optical or another GFX if possible.

Thanks for the help everyone, but I found my problem. I took my computer to my friend's house and put his 8800 GTS in my computer and it worked, so I am going to return my GPU and get another. I would've tried this sooner, but I don't have another GPU in my house (2 laptops and a desktop w/ integrated graphics) and I don't have a computer that could handle my 9800 (the desktop has a 200w PSU). Hopefully, I won't need to get back on. :P
