Problems with my Mobo.

Ok so i have a computer that some one gave me to build and i put it together. i hook every thing up and.... it turns on and no image on screen so then i replace the power supply and it turns on and then turns off in 5 seconds.... So i did trouble shooting on it and it works. I have tooken out the mobo and put it on cardboard and no beeps.
The mother board is:

A7N8X-E Deluxe

the power supply is:

Hipro

These are used computer parts that i was given but ive tested all of them they seem to work fine too.
 
Ok im taking your word that you have tested them
but make sure the motherboard is grounded when put in the case with the brass nuts

ok i tightened a loose brass screw and it stayed on for like half a second longer :/ well any other ideas'?
 
well this psu is from one of my other computers which this means it works but ill try to use my ATX PSU but how do i use it? when i first tried it, i hit the switch and it turns on the motherboard but doesnt turn on any thing else. so i hit the power switch on the front and does nothing, so all it just turns on the fans.

Do that if you can. If it worked then you'll know it was shorted in the case. Maybe a brass standoff in a wrong place, easy to make mistakes like that.

Also do the test with just the CPU/HS and one stick of memory. Of course you'd have the PSU and monitor hooked to it. You'll have to short the pins with a screwdriver where the power switch go on to start it.

If you don't have the manual make a diagram of the plugs and the color of wires on the control panel header for easy reassembly.

Kinda confused. You say you did trouble shooting and it works. Is it working or not?

You said you took it out and put it on a box/cardboard.

okay i should have been more clearer. The first one: i ment for the psu and checked the psu with a paper clip. the second one: the person who gave me the computer he checked everything and i watched him check them. the third one: i have not done anything to the mobo except tighten screws and plug-in cards and the power thing.

Please post computers full system specs including model of that psu. Hipro are usually garbage so depending on several factors it could be causing the issue.

Also clear the cmos by removing the battery, turning off psu at its switch (leave earthed), and hold down power button for 10 - 15 secs.

Remove RAM and replace it in different slots ensuring you have the right slots occupied and that you push down until the catch clicks in place
Turn PSU switch OFF at its switch
Remove the CMOS battery
HOld down power button for 10 secs
REplace CMOS battery
Start computer and enter BIOS, ensure clock and your settings are right.

Save and restart

Enter or install Windows.

MOBO: ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe (has no sata slots so i put a PCI sata controller card in it)
PSU: HIPRO HP-235NLXAK (not the atx so has no switch) TTGI TT-350SS (one that has the switch)
Graphics Cards: ATI RAGE 128 PRO R128P SD32M and ATI Rage XL 8MB PCI
RAM: 2 kingston kvr400x64c3ak2/1g
PCU: NO idea cant take it off cause i have no thermal paste and waiting for it to come in.
2 Hard Drives
Floppy disk drive
dvd/cd drive
fans: AMD 64 Freezer LP AC
I also have pictures if you need.
I have done the motherboard cardboard thing my self today and it works fine with my TTGI PSU. then tried what u said to do and i still cant get the computer to turn on but it did stay on for like 10 seconds instead of like 5.

not this one it came with no sata ports so i took a sata controller card and now i can connect my sata hd to it but i have a ide hd connected with it and they are windows xp, but still it i told the specs of the computer.

Hmmm I had a similar experience when building my second gaming rig a while back. Wasn't sure what the problem was and was getting very frustrated about it, turns out that it was just a problem with the PSU that they sent me. Sent it back and got a new one just like that, problem solved. Best of luck!
 
This is my first computer i am building from scratch actually but i know all basics of building it just that i dont know why its not powering on. ill try to take my other computer's psu and see if that works. wish me luck!
 
Well it didnt work... wait could the voltage coming from the psu not be enough cause they are set at 115. but i dont want to take a risk of burning my mobo with 230...
