Problems with my Ram

I Built a computer a while back. Bought two sticks of 2048 ddr2-SDRAM. When we put the computer together we couldnt use both sticks because the computer would blue screen. We assumed it was because we purchased the wrong os and got 32 bit system, so I have only been using one of the sticks. Recently I got Windows 7 64bit. Installed it and tried putting in the other stick. My computer blue screened, froze on the system load up, or the screen stayed black the the drives kept spinning. I swapped out the stick I had been using and put in the one I had left out before, and my computer works fine. Any help as to how I can get both sticks in? I want to have 4 gigs of ram :(.

Motherboard:
Asus M3A32-MVP DELUXE
Ram:
Corsair DDR2-SDRAM PC2-5300 (333 MHz) - [DDR2-666]

Have you tried them in the other two slots?

I have tried either of the sticks alone in the other slots and it works alone. I tried to run with both in and it does any of the above things. I tried it a few minutes ago with both in diff slots and I got to my windows screen after a few restarts, but my programs kept force closing and I coudlnt do anything.

For some reason it sounds like it has the voltage/timing or both screwed up with both sticks in. Try putting both sticks in the slots they belong and (reset the bios) and see if it will boot. That is with the computer off and unplugged. If you have changed any bios settings other then the memory you will have to change them back.

Plus if it boots, go into the bios and make sure the speed/voltage and timing are set right.

I have never messed around with the bios, and I am not sure what you mean by voltage and timing. So what should I be looking for. Sorry, don't know to much about that stuff:(.

Dont worry about that yet. Do you know how to reset the bios by the jumper on the board? If so do this with it off and unplugged, put both sticks in and see if it will boot.

You can tell me what brand and model memory it is and I can find the voltage and timing.

I am not sure how to reset my bios no. So if you could tell me that would help. And my ram is Corsair DDR2-SDRAM PC2-5300 (333 MHz) - [DDR2-666]

On your board it looks to be one of the set of pins that has a blue jumper on them down by the case headers and SATA slots. There are three pins, the jumper is on two, just move it over to the 2/3 pins for a few minutes, then put it back.

Do this with it off and unpluged, after you unplug it hit the power button once to discharge the power supply.

Need the model number on the memory. Corsair made more then one model of DDR2 667.

Well the timing is suppost to be 5-5-5-15 but Corsair or anybody else list what the voltage is. My guess would be 1.8V

so i should try reseting the bios by moving the jumper like you said above. And with both sticks in go into the bios page and check the voltage and timer?

Do the reset and put both sticks in and try to boot first. If it boots the first time it probably got it right.

If it doesnt boot you can just put one stick in, boot it back up, then check the timing and voltage. If its not at 5-5-5-15 at 1.8V then change it. Then try with both sticks again. If not you could try 1.9 or 2.0V, but I would not push it past 2.0V.

And you put them in slot A1 and A2. the first yellow and black slots.

I believe I reset the Bios correctly. And both ram sticks are in. Didn't check the voltages or any of that stuff. Just having a few issues with some other stuff, but seeing if I cant work them out. I will post in a few minutes if I find that it isnt fixed. Going to try restarting. And I just noticed that you said to put them in a1 and a2.. however I have them in the first slot, and the third slot.

Ok so I have the ram showing up now. But I dont know what to do when the screen appears during load up tellin me to set my bios or something like that. I am also having a problem because I cannot update my graphics card or anythign else.....I go into device manager and I have no graphics card visible in there.

-Unplug your computer from the power...
-click the power button on your computer to remove ALL the power from the power supply
-reset your BIOS by removing the small lithium battery of 3 volts. The battery is called CMOS and it looks like this:
cr2032bat.jpg

-after removing the CMOS battery, leave your computer like that for about 20 minutes
-after 20 minutes return the CMOS battery where it was before, plug your computer in the power, turn on the computer,go into the BIOS and load the BIOS OPTIMAL DEFAULTS by using the options like "Load Setup Defaults" or however it is written in your BIOS and SAVE THE CHANGES by using the option "Exit Saving Changes" or however it is written in your BIOS...

Try this and tell us if it helped...

Cheers!.....I guess:D
