Hello again all. Here's what I'm dealing with this time. I have an old laptop (a Toshiba Satallite 2615DVD, if you must know). If you're thinking to yourself, "Wow, isn't that an old computer?" Yes, it is. As a matter of fact, it's running Windows 98 SE. I wanted transfer some files from that computer to a newer one, via a flash drive. Simple, right? Wrong. I plug in the drive into the hub and then go to "My Computer". I either double-click the icon or right-click the icon and hit open. Either way, I get a perpetual hourglass. When I give my computer the old three-finger salute, it says that "My Computer" is "not responding." Eventually, I either get an active desktop recovery or I have to reboot. The temperature increases (from mid to upper 90s to over 120... sorry, in Celsius that's between 34 - 37 going up to over 49).
This is particularly perplexing since one flash drive, I've used on the old laptop (and transferred files to another computer running Windows XP (and maybe even Windows 7, but I'm not for sure on that). It's not working with the old laptop now. In previous times, when I plugged it in, it worked fine. I've also used the same hub that I'm using now. Before I began using flash drives on the laptop, I had to download a USB driver so the computer could understand what I was doing when I put a flash drive in the USB slot. But I haven't had any problems with it until now.
By the way, the flash drives are running FAT32, which is the same thing the system is running, so there shouldn't be any compatibility problems there.
So do ya have any suggestions as to what I might do?
Incidentally (off the subject here), I hadn't had any computer questions for a while, but I had to pop in the forum to look around. I kind of missed everyone here. That speaks well of all of you.
Anyway, I'd appreciate any help. I'll be anxiously awaiting your response.
