Processes terminated unexpectedly

It's me again... another question pertaining to hard drives. I've been trying to get a new installation of Windows up and running. Every so often, I am plagued by a crash... it'll blue screen and state that "a process had unexpectedly been closed or terminated", or something to that effect. Anyways, has anyone else ever come across this problem before?

This usually happens when I've been transferring a ton of data (15GB+) from my external hard drive back into Windows, or when I've been running updates. Those are the most common occurrences. Usually when my system's hardware is being strained somehow. I was running a bunch of applications one time when it crashed too, but that was when I was transferring data. Since then I've been being a little bit more considerate on Windows with telling it what to do...

I'm beginning to think that maybe my hard drive that Windows is on is probably about to die. Windows Solution Center states that this could be from a hard drive failing, or a loose cable, or just from transferring too much data at a time.

Windows hasn't failed on me in the past 30 minutes or so. Been installing a group of updates and surfing the internet looking up the BSOD codes. Nothing since. Check Disk had been run automatically. Maybe it cleared that up. Then again, maybe not. Windows being what it is, true? It's like a trading card game booster pack. You never know what you might get out of it...

Thoughts? Comments? Anything is appreciated. Thanks everyone!

Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

2 of the blue screens are definately driver issues. Audio and video, update those drivers and see what happens.

Okay. I ran an update on those drivers. I'm delighted to report that Windows hasn't crashed on me since that last indicated blue screen. We'll see how things go throughout the night.

Thank you for your help. I will try and keep you posted on progress.

When I was asleep, it blue screened at approximately 1am CST. Kernel Data InPage Error.

I have a spare 500GB hard drive lying around. I'm seriously considering running an installation of Windows on that drive and see if I am able to get the same errors. Simple enough, yes?

You can try, make sure all your drivers are up to date, not just the ones I had you update.

Yes sir. Pretty sure that all my drivers are up to date. Between Windows Updates hammering my computer with all the updates for Windows and drivers, plus running through all the installation disks that I have for hardware, I'm fairly confident that everything is up to date.

I began experimenting with my hard drives. I tried loading down my computer by sending about 20GB of data from my C: drive to a different internal hard drive and I managed to crash it that way. BSOD: Critical Object Termination.

I downloaded a disk utility from Western Digital called "Data LifeGuard Diagnostic" and it was scanning my C: drive for bad sectors. The extended test was known to take an hour or two to complete. The test barely lasted two minutes before it popped up the message "Too many bad sectors detected!" (not gonna lie, that alert made me lol) and Windows crashed after that. BSOD: Critical Object Termination.

I'm beginning to see a pattern... perhaps my hard drive is going bad after all...

As a side note, I'm using a Corsair 800D case which has four hot-swappable drive bays. I believe each drive bay has their own SATA cable that runs to the motherboard, but the entire complex is powered under one SATA power cable plug. Kinda wondering if that might be malfunctioning, but I hardly doubt this to be a power issue since I'm only running two 7200rpm hard drives (1x 500GB, 1x 1TB).

Here is the message that Windows Action Center presents on the issue:

Windows was temporarily unable to read your hard disk drive. We don't know the exact cause of the problem. In most cases, this type of condition is momentary and doesn't indicate a serious problem, but sometimes it means that a hard disk is failing.

Common causes of this problem:
1. Aging or failing hard disks. To prevent file corruption and data loss, we recommend that you back up all of your important files and folders immediately. See step 1 in the section below for more information.
2. Large file transfers from secondary media, such as an external hard drive, to a local hard drive.
3. Loss of power to a hard disk drive that causes inconsistent data sectors.
4. Hard disk-intensive processes such as antivirus scanners.
5. Recently installed hardware that might have compatibility and performance problems.

It recommends 1. system restart, 2. install updates, 3. run disk error checking tool, and 4. check HDD cables.
