processor benchmarking

90nm Windsors running at 3.0ghz need 1.4. To get this FX to 3.0 and be stable I had to increase to 1.4. It defaulted to 1.35 stock

hmm well it didnt like it at all on the first boot, crashed shortly after i posted my last message, so went back to the bios and set it to auto again...

however CPU-z displays the voltage as 1.408V and PCwizard is saying its set to 1.350V?

What kind of video card are you running, usually CPUs and Video cards will give you freeze ups. P/S will give you restarts and Memory will get you errors. Buts that odd that upping the voltage to 1.4 would make it worse, if that wasnt what it was it should not make any difference

Got a little delima going on there dont you:( I dont think its your processor or memory. What kind of P/S are you running? Dont guess you have another video card you could swap out?

no other video card sadly, this is the only PCI-E one i have.

PSU is Antec Truepower 2 480W

Its not crashed now for ages (probably jinxed it now and see it die). Reckon i will get onto Aria tomorrow and see what my options are, if they are willing to let me swap it all out for a different setup then i might go for it. See what comes about....

just a quick point, PC probe 2 is firing up some warnings. Personally I dont generally take much notice of them but i'm not sure if they might be telling something..

CPU - NB HT voltage warning - 1.41
DDR2 Voltage warning - 1.98

ok so we have had stability for about 2 hours now, but i know that if i put the system under any amount of stress i'm going to have a crash. Running newsleecher and starting ti going is one thing that can guanrantee it. I'm suspecting theres some issue with this processor to be honest.

Mines at 1.3v (stock) and im at 3.27ghz 100% stable, i had it at 3.33Ghz stable. But i hear the 5600 likes OC'ing better than the 6000, but i thought they were the same chip?

Have you checked your Hypertransport Voltage and memory voltage to see if there at default

I think the X2 5400 or 5600 will clock better than the 6000 or FX with lesser voltage, you know there coming out with a X2 6400

The 5400 has less cache, thats the reason i got the 5600 over the 6000 because you can easly oc it faster than the 6000 and i like its multiplier and voltages... i cant wait to see how the 6400 performs...

I gonna sell this FX and DFI board, getting more out of it than I paid for it! Getting a DFI NF570 and put my X2 5000 back on it. Not to impressed with the FX, runs to hot! compaired to the 5000-5600. Getting 200 for the FX, just paid 169, and 150 for the board and paid 139 for it.

everythings at default, completely giving up on this thing now. Aria is gonna get a call tomorrow and if they refuse to allow me to exchange then a visit to their manchester branch will be made!

Yea something is not quite right! To me I am leaning toward the board with some voltage issues or something, it could be varying voltage current to the Northbridge and memory.

I am more in mind that its the board, however i am also a tad worried about a problem in comptibility or confliction with the processor too. As such i would rather not just replace the board and hope for the best, instead I would rather a complete change.

On that basis i'm going to push Aria tomorrow to allow me to swap to a Gigabyte Dq6 and a Q6600, it will mean chipping in about £50 but should be worthwhile.....

Yea man thats a pain, I agree instead of swaping parts out one at a time! I belive it has something to do with the board though. Could be something so simple it would knock you down:D. One other thing that board has the 8 pin CPU power connector, you dont just by chance be using a 4 pin because the manual said you could. I,ve had problems with that too!

thing is i dont have an extra piece to make it an 8 pin connector to be fair. That might be the issue but its got too late to be arsed checking now. In my mind i make the call tomorrow and get this one sorted once and for all! :)
