Processor compatibility

Didn't you already ask this?

Yes they'll work. They're both socket 775 and the motherboard supports Core2Duo chips.

Unfortunately, the 6550 isn't listed on the cpu support page here.

I wouldn't chance it. Only supports 1066 mhz and that processor is 1333mhz.

Aww, dang, well it's too late and I already ordered it, can there be any damage if I TRY to use it? I mean, if it works I'd like to not have to spend anymore money. I can order another mobo if it doesn't but I'd like to at least see if it does first.

No it won't damage it. Worst that will happen is it'll just turn on and nothing will happen, or it'll toss a bunch of beep codes at you.

Yes, the only problem I've seen so far is that it runs at 1.87ghz instead of 2.33ghz and the multiplier won't change for some reason.

Check and see if Intel SpeedStep is enabled or not (in the BIOS).

Lucky it booted at all since it does support the processor. Like said the board only has a 1066 bus, so it back clocked it.

It might be helpful to upgrade MOBO?

This was only to tide me over till my new computer is completed, I'm not going to upgrade this one at all anymore. It was running a P4 and it was just not good enough for the everyday things I was doing.

Can you still OC it even if the FSB is limited to 800mhz? Just to get it back to its stock speeds or no?

It wouldn't let me change the multiplier. I would change it, save, and when I restarted it it went back to where it was before I changed it, so it seems not.

Damn alright. I was having the same problem in one of my setups with an E6600. I thought maybe you could still have the FSB at 800 mhz but the clock speeds back to 2.4 ... but i'm guessing that's not possible now.
