Processor Heat is starting 48 C

when i first start my computer (cold boot)
it says the temp of the processor is 48-50 C
is this normal ?
and it stays at this rate after that

By the sound of it you have a dodgey temperature deterctor, which temp specificly is it? CPU, case, HDD??
 
if it's for the processor in your sig, then it is hotter than normal, but not necessarily too hot, my 3.2 HT runs at about that on startup

suprasteve: yes it's about the processor in my sig
BIOS , Everest and Speedfan gave me the same temp
so what should i do about this ?
 
What core is the P4, if its prescott then i really wouldnt be worried at all, if Northwood or anything else then perhaps causes for a new heatsink or reapplying of the current heatsink/thermal paste. Just for reference, i currently am in a heat crisis with my P4 2.8Ghz Prescott - idle temp is 49-51 load rises to 65*c where i set it to shutdown, lol. have ordered a new HSf and am awaiting delivery now.

Bear in min im no SKT478, im not sure if you are, im too lazy to look up the motherboard on google and find out, but 478 cpus usually do run hotter than LGA775 models

it's socket 478 prescott 2.8\1024\800
but i have the same problem with a northwood 2.8\512\533 on a 845PE-RZ(-C)
same socket btw
 
heh, exact same CPU as me, lol... i suggest buying an "Arctic Cooling Freezer 4", look at some reviews on it, tis pretty damn good, and cheap to, ive got one on order, being delivered in three days, if you wait i will be posting up my own review here when i install it and test it etc... as i said i have pretty much the same temps as you, they arent dangerously high just higher than i would like.

I wouldn't suggest an arctic cooler for your cpu, they are only known for their VGA coolers. Zalman and Thermaltake are a lot better.
 
yea agreed... anything will be better than stock.
also, make sure you get a cooler with a decent fan... they make some newer heatsinks with super low airflow... thats never good... i dont care how much surface area there is. sure, theyre quieter... but i prefer temperature controlled fans more.

yes, and this is reflected in the price tag, also if you look at comparison reviews between the AC Freezer4 and the Zalman CNPS7000-Cu, it is suprisingly close and at one point the AC Freezer 4 actually matched the Zalmans performance. AC are also world renound for having EXTREMELY quiet fans, the Freezer 4 is ~20dBA (almost silent).

Oh btw, it should be delivered tomorrow (Friday) so the review will be done by the weekend.

I had the same problem with my old pc. Turns out the CPU Fan was hanging off lol. I'd definitely get a new one. I'd reccomend Artic Freeze. Its like 10-15 bucks and its light and its great. Good one for socket 478 but be warned its huge.
