Processor Switching

Hey guys i was wondering if anyone could answer my question, I'd prefer a very legitimate answer if you don't mind.

I have a desktop that was built by my uncle, the processor he put inside sucks really bad its a Pentium four. My graphics card is amazing though i don't remember what it is i know it comes from an old dell desktop my father had. The processor can't handle the graphics when i play Sims my Sims have holes in them and streaks of colors are every where same Minecraft. I know my old Xp Compaq presario desktop had no problems with these games and i was wondering if i could take the processor out from there and put it into my windows 7 32 bit pc i'm using now. I know its not the graphics card since the old one didnt have enough memory for sims 3 to run and the new one does. So if anyone can give an answer let me know sometime soon. Thank you! :)

It actually sounds like you issue is in the graphics card. If you could talk a little plainer it would be easier to tell, but it sounds like that you are artifacting.

Yep, have you ever updated the drivers? Otherwise sounds like the graphics card is failing. The processor would only result in low framerates nothing like this i know of.

No its not the graphics card its the processor all i want to know is id i can switch out my processor that i have now with the one in my compaq

Like Wolfe said, it's your video card, not your processor. You said it's from an "Old Dell", which means the card itself is probably old. P4's can handle quite a bit.

It is the graphics card almost definitely but whatever. We have to know what the processors are, and what the exact motherboard model is to know if they are compatible. If one is amd and the other intel then there is no way they will work together.

no it really isnt the graphics card i have 2 gbs or ram the old one barely had one plus the 2 gb is a newer version of the nividia graphics cards

How can i find the motherboard number? the processor i want to get rid of is an intel pentium 4 the other one i have no clue what it is ill have to open the computer up. ill let you know when i find out. I know i have to find out the socket compatibility.
I apologize for making this a bit difficult with my lack of details.

That has really nothing at all to do with it. Your graphics card can be faulty from the factory. And vRAM size says little about the age of a card. I have 512MB on my FX2500m and 128MB on the NVS135m, but the second is newer. A 135m and a 8800m GTX will have different vRAM amounts and they are the same age, and from the same lineup basically. Really, listen to those that know. It will do you no good to upgrade your processor. On top of that, if you really want to find out yourself that you will still have the issue, then we need processor models and motherboard models. Without that information, there is no way to tell you anything at all.

oh damn it i took out the mother bord from the old compaq and opened the fan and the processor is an amd damn im sorry for wasting all of your time:(

Your processor question is not a waste of time. Really the only waste of time here is you thinking that it is a processor problem. Artafacting is a graphics card issue. Can be bad drivers (AMD/ATI is good for them), can be a weak power supply, or could be a bad card. Do not think just because a card has always worked that it will not be bad. They can go bad at any second from the moment you first installed it. especially if you did not wear an ESD strap, or take the time to safeguard yourself against ESD. Also it could be that you did not reinstall your drivers when you changed cards. Based off your responces so far, I would start here. Most likely source of error at this point.

ill ask my uncle about what he did when he built it and artifacting is the holes in the 3d images right? PS I was told by him that the processor was he problem that it couldnt hold the games i should have said that before i apologize again but ill look into it i have everything updated i go through everything weekly to make sure everything is updated but ill still check.
I know ima noob at this and everything but i really would like to thank you

it can be any kind but check with us before you buy, i wouldn't spend much for a card to go with a pentium4 system and you'll also need to check the power supply. You can probably upgrade the processor to something better too if the motherboard is good enough or has updated bios that support it.

yeah thats no problem ill go with my sisters boyfriend sometime to get something thank you guys so much and yeah im not really looking to spend anything over fifty bucks ill just have him check out the computer for what he knows it needs

Ok, before you do anything, let's see what exactly you're working with.

Download Speccy.

Open it and take a screenshot. Do this by having it open and pressing the button "print screen" on your keyboard. It may say something like PRT SCN or similar.

Paste that into paint. Save this picture. Upload it to a hosting site like Imgur.

Post the link here.
