I have a Dell Inspiron 530 thats a couple of years old. The memory is already maxed out. Can I upgrade the processor? How? Where do i buy it? Thanks in advance.

may or may not be any use to, depending on what cpu is in it, tho with how many of these buggers are out there...ebay. really honestly cpus dont go bad, unless abused.

Q6600s go for around 100 bucks on ebay, costs about 75 for a e6600 on newegg....might be worth it? there are probably not going to be any cheap quads out there sadly, and thats the only last ditch upgrade i can suggest as far as that is the motherboard and it seems to be supported, just be sure you have heatsink goop

How do I check what processor is already in the computer?

download CPUz and run it. it will give you the processor info for your computer.

Or right click on my computer and select properties, it will be in the middle of the first page.

Look for something in the area of a E6600 or so. That will give you a good bit of a speed boost over a PD @ 2.0.

a good update would be a Core 2 Duo E6600. It will be faster than your current processor.

What's involved in the upgrade? Is it just the physical switching processor or is there software stuff involved.

its all hardware based as long as you do not need a BIOS update.
