Processor Upgrade

I've got an older laptop here. The Compaq Presario 1215. I would like to upgrade the processor for fun. Its current processor is a Cyrix MediaGX MMX enhanced processor. It says specifically on the processor: "GXm-180GP 2.9V 80C"

So its 180mhz, uses 2.9 volts, and runs at a temperature of 80 celsius i believe.

What processors can replace this one? I'm looking for anything faster, and not expecting anything over 500 mhz.

Also, don't tell me to get a new computer. I already have one. This is just my mess around laptop.

Thanks

I don't think it's very easy to replace a CPU in a laptop. I think you'd be better off buying a new laptop... I don't even know where one would buy a laptop CPU, or find instruction about replacing it.

Did you read what I wrote? I said that I DONT NEED A NEW COMPUTER. I want to upgrade THIS ONE. I have TWO laptops. The one I inquire about, and a brand new one. I see know way to make myself any clearer. Please READ posts before responding, because it can be VERY frustrating getting a useless response. Now people who could potentially help me in finding a new processor may pass over my thread in seeing that it already has responses, and think that I have already been assisted.

Please do not be offended, and i appreciate your input, but please try to focus on what i have asked.

Upgrading that is not worth your time. The max ram is only 80mb, not enough for even windows 98. You won't even find a processor to throw in it. It's too old of a system. By the way, if a processor ran at 80 degrees celsius it would burn up. If you had a newer system you could play around with it but this system has got to be over 10 years old. Find something newer to play around with if you want to.

johnb95 is right, that processor was probably discontinued in 1998. You won't even find a ram upgrade. There is probably no possible upgrade besides overclocking with clockgen. (If you can even get it started... Lol Just Kidding :-))

I read the post before and realized after that it didn't really address what you were saying. I thought I covered that you were doing it for fun, but even then I don't think it would really be worth your time. Sorry I was unclear, but you don't need to blow it up in my face.

hey if you really want to play around with a computer, buy a Desktop computer , laptops are not very playful

tuxify- very sorry. i hope i didnt come across as rude. ive had bad forum experiances.

DSM1999- i have several that i can upgrade. one specifically needs a new graphics card and more ram. the processor is 3 Ghz though so it wont be needing anything better i doubt. What else is there really to upgrade in a desktop?

No problem. You'll find that this forum is a very friendly one. Treat people with respect even when they make a mistake, and they will respect you back.

On topic - Tell me if you get the laptop upgraded, I'd be happy to find out the ending results.

tuxify, how is it possible that you have 935 posts and have no idea where to buy a cpu replacement for a laptop?!?! have you heard of newegg.com? check it out.
