Processor?

Hi,

In control panel, under 'system', it says Pentium D CPU 3.20 GHZ 3.20 GHZ.

Why does it say it twice? Does it mean my PC has, overall, a processing speed of 6.40 GHZ?

Cheers.

Well, according to the above it is 3200 MHZ (3.2 GHZ). But why is said twice? I have one of those duel processors. I was always under the impression they were called 'dual' because there are two of them, making then ideal for running multiple tasks.

Surely two 3.2ghz processors equates to 6.4ghz?

There are 2 processors on one chip.

No, it does not equal 6.4GHz. They are running simultaneously, but not adding onto each other.

question Bobo, i know nothing about this, thats why im asking, whats the point of them running simutaniously?

So programs that are written to take advantage of the processing powers of two cores would be able to utilize both cores. And overall you'll be able to multitask better.

It says it twice because one is the original clock speed and the other is the current clock speed.

yep...kinda like in laptops with a 1.8 Ghz clock speed will say:
XXX XXX 1.8Ghz
883 Mhz

it's just the current clock speed... although it's rare to see them in desktops... but i have no experience with that series of processors...

It says Pentium D 3.20, which is the model of the processor, then it says the current speed. So if it was overclocked, it should say something like "Pentium D 3.20Ghz, 3.50Ghz"
