I just use my Nvidia control panel to adjust my fan speed. I have an Evga 8800 GTX and run my fan at 70% to 80% instead of the stock 59%. Drops GPU temps by about 2-5 degrees Celsius. Also if it is an Evga card you can download "Evga Precision" from the Evga website that works well also.

Agreed. Nvidia control panel's probably the way to go. Though my 7600GT's really gotten quiet since I updated the drivers.

ive never had a prob with rivatuner. worked on every card ive ever had

Wait... I might have meant Rivatuner... I forget, is that available from Nvidia's website? Either way, as I said, you may want to try updated drivers if yours aren't up to date. I know my fan doesn't run nearly as much as it used to since I updated. And this is a clean install of windows with no hacks or anything.
