Program to wipe deleted data

I have seen several programs that will write random data over files as I delete them. What I'm looking for is a program that will write random data over all the deleted files on my hard drive and leave the un-deleted data intact.

Any software you guys like for this?

There's lots of different software that will do this. What you're looking for in a "DOD wipe" program. It will write over the sections 7 times to ensure that the data cannot be recovered. Any of the major chain stores that carry computers will have software of a few different brands that can do this...

I dont think anyone make a program that will do this on its own AS you delete things through normal computer useage. What you could use to wipe the Free Space (actual free space, or files that you have deleted and are registered as free space) would be CCleaner or Eraser.

With CCleaner you can wipe the entire free space with an overwrite standard or 1time, 3times, or more. Very similar with Eraser, but with Eraser you have an option to delete single or multiple files, folders with Eraser's overwrite deletion standard of 1time, 3times, or more. Eraser can also be used to wipe free space, clear the recycle bin, or delete the entire hard drive (so be careful!).

You do realize that by doing this constant secure overwrite of your free space and of everything you delete, if you need to recover a file you deleted accidentally, its nearly impossible!

Thanks for the info! I chose Eraser, because it is free. I set it to wipe my free space, but when I manually choose to run it. That way, I can erase years of who knows what that I have deleted. I'm going to have to read the manual closely to apply the more specific attributes of the program.

I have experience using a program called "Zilla Data Shredder" to wipe hard drives and flash drives. My advice is back up the valued data to a separate storage device and disconnect the storage device before you do a data wipe.

If you are interested in downloading the program it is here:

I can also give you a tutorial on how to use the program if you are interested.

CCleaner is free also. It also does a great job of eliminating all the temps and "junk" files from being online. It also gets rid of all unessary files on your computer. I use both Eraser and CCleaner.

CCleaner also has nice, easy to use tool features for uninstalling programs, handling startups, the cleaning function, a registry scanner (that part is really best used only when necessary to kill some leftover bits of an uninstalled program or other), a system restore point deletion tool, and a drive wiper.

I use Eraser for deleting things out of the recycle bin when I'm sure I dont need the things I put in there. Its also useful for securely deleting sensitive files like money records, account info, etc...

And as I said before!
You do realize that by doing this constant secure overwrite of your free space and of everything you delete, if you need to recover a file you deleted accidentally, its nearly impossible to recover after a secure overwrite deletion!

USE SECURE DELETION PROGRAMS WITH CAUTION!
