Programme to convert Bmp's to black and white??

Hi all

This is my first post but you all seem a helpful lot and what a better place to post this

Basically i have a lot of pictures that i need to convert to black and white lines - just basic Bmps.

Basically my reason is im just writing a book and ive taken loads of screen shots from computer games and so on but if i was to actually make this book i dont want to get done on copyright by using their games lol - so if i could convert all the pics to black and white - then possibly delete some bits of image and so on...... just to avoid that hassle!

And ive tried using the basic paint on microsoft lol but it seems to mess it all up.

so any programmes that could do it ?? it would save me having to draw out each individual picture! thanks a lot for your help

super_dave31, you might want to try a more robust program like photoshop etc... most of them are a bit pricey but I imagine there are trial versions or other freeware/shareware programs out there. There have been more than a few threads on this topic, take a look at some past threads via the search engine.
 
photoshop will work, I actually had to do some of this stuff in programming, but I wouldn't suggest doing it that way, it really sucked
 
Photoshop will do it, but I don't understand what's wrong with paint... You want 2 color, black and white, correct? Paint does that just fine. If you meant greyscale, you might need something like photoshop...

Yes, paint works fine at this :)
 
ah ok well thanks all for the help

ill try the free ware stuff. saving it in black and white does work but all i wanted was the main lines of the pictures - but with paint every little bit goes white or black!
